What is an RfRx Talk?
RfRx Talks feature a wide variety of speakers including experts in religious trauma, relationship issues, building community, grieving, science-communication, critical thinking, and more.
The RfRx talks take place on Zoom, and are also livestreamed to YouTube.. Each show begins with our guest’s presentation (or interview) which is allocated up to an hour. Next comes a Q&A session utilizing questions the co-hosts collect from the Zoom chat. (We leave the chat active for the entire session for the use of all attendees.)
After the Q&A we stop the recording and YouTube stream. We then allow the Zoom attendees to unmute their microphones and enjoy a moderated video hangout with the guest and co-hosts where additional questions can be asked and any topic of interest can be discussed. Although the hangout is not recorded, RfRx Talks are widely promoted and the Zoom session is open to the public, so they are not confidential or private. Thus, vulnerable clients should utilize Zoom settings to remain anonymous..
There is no cost to attend an RfRx Talk, but if you feel so inclined, donations are always welcome and may be made here.

Giving Up the (Holy) Ghost: A Reconstruction of Moving Forward, Featuring Matthew Rhodes
This week on RfRx, join us for a discussion about what happens after one’s faith and community unravel.
Through deep personal storytelling and thoughtful conversations, Matthew Rhodes explores the realities of recovering from high-control religion, religious trauma, and the complicated journey of becoming an atheist after a lifetime of belief. Drawing from experiences with abuse, church leadership, apologetics, mission work, and eventual excommunication, he reflects on how religion can shape identity, morality, and one's understanding of suffering, while asking what remains when those foundations disappear.
Rather than purely relying on the criticisms of religion, Rhodes focuses on rebuilding. An exploration of philosophy, ethics, public health, and humanism to investigate what remains after a dogma is disintegrated. With honesty, humor, and compassion, Rhodes offers a space for anyone questioning their beliefs, recovering from religious harm, or searching for a life grounded not in divine certainty, but in our shared humanity.
Join us either in Zoom (where you can ask questions), or watch the show live on YouTube. And remember to stay for the Zoom hangout after the show.
